How To Dress For Your Extended Family Session At the Jersey Shore

Choosing what to wear for your Family Portrait Session is tough but when incorporating a group of 10 people or more it's even tougher!  But, don't worry.. your favorite photographer is here to make the process easier ;)  Read the tips below for tips on what to wear for your New Jersey Beach Extended Family Session!

Start With the Whole Family

Choose 2-3 coordinating colors (no more than two colors and a neutral). Good examples include blue, pink and white or olive, purple and grey. The colors don’t need to be the same shade. Do what works best for skin tones and hair color for each person.

Focus On Each Individual Family

I ask each individual family to coordinate separately.. this can elevate stress!  I suggest starting with mom and have her choose something she loves and feels good in!  Momma is usually the one behind the camera so this is the perfect moment for her to shine with her loved ones!  After mom is styled, then move on to the hardest to easiest to dress.  Choose outfits based on their Dress each person for their personality and taste. Everyone should feel confident and comfortable with a little oomph!

Dress From Head to Toe

Every aspect of what you are wearing is important and won't go unnoticed!  Shoes, diaper covers and even socks.  All of these things are likely show at some point.  Luckily for sessions at the beach in New Jersey you'll be barefoot so that's one less thing to worry about!

Avoid being too matchy! (Ahem.. most important one!)

Please make sure not to go too matchy!  I'm sorry.. white shirts and jeans for everyone isn't the best look.  You're not alone, My cousins and I did a photoshoot like this back in day at JC Penny.  Although, this can sometimes (and I mean sometimes) work for small children, but never for adults.  If everyone is wearing khaki pants and matching colored shirts it'll look like a store employee photoshoot.
