There are so many options out there for pregnant mommas to wear to their Maternity Photoshoot here in Montclair, NJ. You definitely have to choose wisely, though. Depending on the location, we can have some color clashes or depending on the size of your belly you want to make sure you can actually SEE your beautiful baby bump!
This is entirely up to you! There are a few things to consider with either option. When opting for a dress, I recommend choosing something that is form fitting. When we wear a looser and flowy dress it's easier for our pregnant bellies to "hide" making it less obvious in your photos. Everyone carries differently but I find no matter how big or small your belly is, a flowy dress for a maternity session isn't the best option.
If you choose to wear pants or jeans, it's kind of the same guidelines! The top you choose should show off that bump! Or you can do what this momma did and roll up her tank top to really show off her belly.
It all comes down to your comfort level but regardless, we want to make sure we can see that gorgeous bump of yours.
To me, no color is off limit except for black. When wearing a black top or dress it actually hides your bump! You can tell in the photos below, no matter what angle I posed mom you were able to see her bump. If we did straight on shots while wearing a black dress, that bump would magically disappear!
Also, locations can be a factor when choosing a color. For this session, we chose a beautiful garden here in Montclair, New Jersey. At that time in May, the flowers weren't all in bloom so there was a lot of greenery. If we chose to wear green, it would be hard for mom to stand out.
Being pregnant myself.. a cute sneaker or comfy sandal is my go-to. Heels/wedges aren't comfortable for me and from experience from other sessions.. those momma's end up taking their heels off! It's really your comfort level.. some expecting mom's can rock it wearing heels.. but if you wouldn't normally do that.. stick to what makes you feel confident while walking and standing!
No matter the session, the other family member's should wear complimentary colors not matching colors. This is visually more appealing and timeless :)
